OSCON: Project Sputnik Explained + Coverage recap

The week before last I had a fantastic time at OSCON, seeing old friends and making new ones.  As always, the hallway track was the one I found most enlightening.

On the second day we announced that project Sputnik would be going from project to product in the fall and got a fantastic response (see some of the articles written about it at the end).  On the day of the announce Mike Hendrickson, O’Reilly’s VP of content strategy, interviewed me about the project (check out Mike’s project Sputnik review).  That video is the first one below.

I also did a “cliffs notes” version with Janet Bartleson which clocked in at one minute and 47 seconds so if you’re short on time you can check out the second one.

  1. Wrong link for Mike Hendrickson review, the correct one is: http://radar.oreilly.com/2012/07/dells-sputnik-git-what-you-want.html
But…any news on the Beta Cosmonout Program?
A lot of us are becoming crazy I think. This is the most ambicious program since a long time. Linux fan (especially Ubuntu ones…) see a great opportunity to change the world in this Ultrabook.
    This is just a personal opinion..of course…

    • Thanks for catching that, its fixed now.

Our little team is currently going through the beta applications now, hoping to have an updated soon. Thanks for your patience!

  2. Miles says:

I bought an XPS13 with windows a few weeks ago and loaded sputnik on it to tide me over until pre-loaded sputnik was available. My hope was that it would be on the next rev of XPS13 hardware, with higher screen resolution. If the sputnik XPS13 still has 1366×768, I am sorry to say I won’t buy one. I will either stick with my current XPS13 (still running ubuntu), or else investigate the new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 carbon. Please upgrade the screen res!
